VIDEO Coronavirus: the ingenious way a Turkish city reminds people to wear a mask – Coronavirus

A city in Turkey has installed cameras in shelters at bus stations, and anyone not wearing a mask sees their face covered by the coronavirus, reports Euronews.

Facial recognition technology is used to remind people to cover their faces with protective masks.

The system detects if someone is not wearing a mask and superimposes an image of the virus on the face of the person facing the camera.

The image of the virus disappears when the person in question covers their nose and mouth.

Murzon Zorluoğlu, the mayor of Trabzon, said it was an effective way to use artificial intelligence to raise awareness of the pandemic.

However, some have used the technology as a mirror or to take an unusual selfie.

Turkey is asking people to cover their faces in all public spaces, including outdoors.

Anyone caught without a mask is fined on the spot with 900 Turkish pounds (approximately 463 lei).
