The Wisconsin Supreme Court today refused to consider the Republican re-election process for US presidency, Donald Trump, who was trying to reverse Democrat Joe Biden’s victory.
The legal defeat in Wisconsin was the most recent in a series of setbacks in Trump’s strategy of trying to reverse his electoral defeat in several states – which contributed to the overall victory of Biden, already considered president-elect – citing the existence of an “election process fraud” or procedural irregularities.
Trump asked the Wisconsin Supreme Court to disqualify more than 221,000 ballots in the state’s two largest counties, where the Democratic Party has a solid foundation, saying there were irregularities in how votes were counted.
The Republican candidate wanted the case to automatically go to the Wisconsin Supreme Court, arguing that there was no time to go through the minor courts, given the approaching December 14, the date on which the “big voters” of each state meet. the vote in Congress decides which determines the choice of the next President of the USA.
Donald Trump believes that there were thousands of postal votes without a written request that had been submitted and argued that the electronic register created when an elected official votes by mail is not in the spirit of the law.
The Republican candidate also contested other ballot papers in which election officials filled out address information that was missing from the certification envelope in which the vote was entered, although this has been a common practice in Wisconsin for many years.
Finally, Trump challenged the postal ballot papers in which voters declared themselves “indefinitely confined” due to the covid-19 pandemic, to justify this type of procedure, which exempted them from the obligation to present a document with a photo of support.
The Wisconsin Supreme Court decided today not to uphold these complaints, but still left two cases pending, for similar complaints filed by the Republican Party.
This week, the state of Wisconsin certified Biden’s victory, setting the stage for “big voters” to make the decision in favor of the Democratic candidate on the 14th.
