“We have developed the vaccine that we want to take and that we want our family to take”, is the guarantee of the medical director of Pfizer Portugal, Susana Castro Marques, for those who have doubts about the safety of the innovative form of immunization born from the union of the original North American and German BioNTech drug. The marriage dates back to 2018 and the focus was on a universal flu vaccine, in what turned out to be the springboard for the most anticipated novelty in 2020: the discovery of a “safe and effective” prevention against SARS-CoV-2 .
It was the first hope for the end of the Covid-19 era. This was followed by announcements of two other equally advanced vaccines: from Moderna and partners AstraZeneca and from the University of Oxford. On Friday, Pfizer and BioNTech’s product received an application for emergency use from the US pharmaceutical authority.
