The committee will help set a roadmap for Biden to follow after his inauguration in the White House on January 20.
Biden did not provide details on the plan, but reiterated the main cornerstones of his health policy: massive rapid test campaign, vaccination priority for people at risk, increased production of protective equipment and financial aid for small businesses and schools.
“We have just learned the good news in this fight with the announcement of progress towards an effective vaccine,” Biden said after Pfizer and BioNTech Laboratories announced that their candidate vaccine is more than 90 percent effective against COVID-19.
The president-elect, however, stressed that a reliable vaccine would not be distributed en masse for more than a few months and that the United States was facing “a very bad winter”.
