Kiev mayor, former boxing champion Vitali Kliciko, was officially declared the winner of a new five-year term at the helm of the Ukrainian capital on Friday, two weeks after the vote ended, dpa informs.

The electoral commission of the Ukrainian capital announced that Vitali Kliciko, 49, collected 50.52% of the votes, the highest percentage of the 20 candidates who participated in the elections, writes agerpres.ro.

It was initially thought that a second round would take place later in November to determine the winner, as initial results showed that no candidate had crossed the 50% threshold.

Vitali Kliciko is recovering from infection with the new type of coronavirus the day before the election. He couldn’t vote.
