DIn the city center of Nairobi, Kenya, a complex was heard that includes a large hotel, DusitD2, banks and offices.

Witnesses and local officials, quoted by the AP, admit that they are a "terrorist attack". However, the most recent accounts report the claims of the terrorist group Al-Shabab.

There is no information on the number of victims yet. "I heard the shots and two explosions and I started to see people running to try to protect their lives," says a woman who works near the complex.

The witness reports refer to the presence of at least four armed men.

In social networks have already started to be shared videos. In them there are audible shots, whose provenance is unknown.

The BBC says authorities are still removing people from the hotel. An on-site safety cable has also been installed. There will still be people trapped inside the building.

In a first phase, the Kenyan authorities have not yet confirmed whether it was a terrorist attack. However, this possibility was soon admitted by the police, as reported by Reuters.

The Kenyan capital has been the scene of violent assaults in the recent past but also of terrorist attacks.

In 2013, militant jihadists killed dozens of people in a mall. By 2015, around 150 students died as a result of an attack on a local university.
