Moscow, January 16 – Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Wednesday insisted on his annual press conference in which Moscow holds a position against foreign intervention in the affairs of Venezuela and in general in those of any State.

"We have supported the efforts of dialogue between the government and the opposition […], which was eventually dissolved because in a part of the opposition – the so-called "intransigent" opposition – there was an influence from the outside, mainly from the United States, "said the minister of Foreign Affairs answering a request for RT.

Lavrov indicated that it was precisely this external interference that "very unfortunately" caused the intransigence of some Venezuelan factions, to the point that dangerous speculations around him began to be felt.

"We have heard statements of a possible military intervention in Venezuela, statements that now the United States will recognize or recognize as president of Venezuela, not Nicolás Maduro, but the head of Parliament [Asamblea Nacional]. All of this is very alarming, "said the diplomat.

Speaking in Moscow before about 550 journalists, mostly foreign, Lavrov expressed his conclusions about it. "This all points to the fact that the United States maintains the collapse of unwanted governments in Latin America, of course, but also in other regions, among its lines and priority actions," he said.

The vice president of the United States, Mike Pence, has invited Tuesday to the president of the National Assembly of Venezuela, Juan Guaidó, to recognize the head of Parliament as "the only legitimate democratic body" in the South American country, reported a Reuters office.

The AN, which is in contempt and whose decisions are void, approved on Tuesday an agreement on the "presidential usurpation" of President Nicolás Maduro, who was recently promoted by the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) for the period 2019-2025 and ratified by the Plenipotentiary National Constitutive Assembly (ANC).

This Tuesday, Maduro said that the TSJ will apply legal corrections to those "who want to mock the constitution", while ANC president Diosdado Cabello informed that judges and prosecutors have already been appointed to investigate on the actions of Parliament that "violate" the Magna Carta. Caracas reiterated that the ignorance of the democratically elected government is part of a "coup" encouraged by the United States
