Many Americans took to the streets in major US cities to celebrate Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.
According to AFP, in Washington, the crowd gathered in the White House area and Black Lives Matter Plaza, part of the driveway leading to the residence of the President of the United States. The federal capital is a democratic stronghold. People took to the streets carrying signs with election winners Biden and Kamala Harris.
“I am very happy and proud to be going in a different direction,” said Amy Berger, 40, who went to enjoy the election results with her son.
In the White House stage, the crowd sang “Goodbye” to Donald Trump.
In New York, Donald Trump’s hometown, crowds celebrated Biden’s victory with horns and shouts. Catherine Griffin, 47, cried for joy after learning of the result. “I am happy that Donald Trump is exiting our lives, hopefully forever,” he said, asking for “some normality”.
In front of a Trump property in New York, the crowd shouted “Enough Trump”.
Manifestations of joy also take place in San Francisco, Atlanta and other American cities.
The Americans waited four days to find out the name of their future president. The race was tight, in an extremely divided country. On Saturday, US broadcasters announced that Joe Biden had crossed the 270-strong voter mark, allowing him to fill the White House seat early next year.
