For five months, a Venezuelan mother has been looking for her minor child in Colombia. A man, who gained her trust, moved to another municipality overnight and took the child.

The story of Carla Betania García Díaz was reviewed by El Tiempo, of Bogotá, and Alert Tolima, on their web pages this Friday 6 November, as well as several news programs.

The person designated responsible for the kidnapping of the minor is also Venezuelan and responds in the name of William Caprio.

As narrated by García, this man took care of his 3-year-old son while she worked in the informal market of Bello (Antioquia), but he moved from that municipality with the minor to Rionegro and was unable to locate him.

“He helped me and I trusted him. At first he did very well, but in May when I went to convince my son to bring him here, they told me he had moved. He gave me an address for where he lives in Rionegro, but I’ve been with my partner many times and we can’t find them, “said the woman in El Tiempo.

According to her mother, she met Caprio in October 2019 and never had any complaints about him.

Carla García and Caprio contact each other on Facebook, she said. “Because of the photos he sends me of my son, he has it very well. He has always known about the baby, but in reality I already want to have my son, he cannot continue behind him. He tells me in a message that he announced it was moving, but that’s a lie, “the mother said.

He claims to have requested the support of the police, the prosecutor’s office and the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF), but has not received a positive response.

The official from Medellín, William Vivas Lloreda, asked the authorities to activate a search path, to quickly find the whereabouts of the child and capture Caprio.
