Castex announced the government’s vaccination strategy at a press conference. Stating that the daily number of Covid-19 cases has decreased in the country, Castex said the occupancy rate of hospitals is gradually decreasing. Castex noted that a maximum of 6 people should come together during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Stating that 6 different contracts have been signed for the supply of the Covid-19 vaccine, Castex stressed that his country will have a capacity of 200 million doses for 100 million people. Castex explained that a person will be given two doses of the vaccine every few weeks. Claiming that the cost of this will be 1.5 billion euros, Castex stressed that the vaccine will be free for all.
Castex pointed out that in the first phase the vaccine will mainly affect those staying in nursing homes for the elderly and health workers. Stating that in the second phase, people in the risk group will be vaccinated from February 2021 until spring, Castex said that in the third phase, the vaccine will be aimed at the entire population after spring.
