Since election day in the United States, nearly two-thirds of Trump’s tweets have received warnings because the content is misleading or incorrect. His profile may even be blocked since January.

For several weeks now, the tweets from the US president on Twitter have been marked as misleading. But since election day in the United States, Donald Trump’s Twitter account with the many warning labels has been a single danger zone for disinformation. During that time, Trump dropped 50 tweets. Of these, 31 were marked, mostly as controversial in terms of truthfulness or misleading. But there are also indications on the electoral outcome that has not yet been confirmed, as well as information on the security of the vote by letter.
Trump repeatedly claims – without providing any evidence – that there was massive manipulation in the election. The Botsentinel analytics tool then warns Trump’s three tweets with a misinformation warning. Only 19 of Trump’s tweets were unmarked.
In addition, the president shared various content from the right-wing radical site “Breitbart” and most recently ten videos in a row from ultra-conservative broadcaster Fox News. For content from other users that appears as retweets about Trump, seven were flagged and eleven were not flagged.
Trump account blocked since January?
Trump had also spread QAnon codes and symbols more widely in the past. Numerous accounts of the QAnon network have already been deleted from Twitter.
The company also recently suspended the profile of former “Breitbart” boss and Trump adviser Steve Bannon after he not only described the election result – without evidence – as false, but also suggested in a podcast that immunologist Anthony Fauci and FBI Director Christopher Wray should be beheaded. The reason is their disloyalty to President Trump. “I’d like to throw heads” as a warning to federal bureaucrats, Bannon said.
It is possible that Trump’s account may also be deactivated in the next year due to the numerous misleading and already refuted factual claims. Twitter hasn’t taken this step so far because tweets from a head of state are in the public interest. Political observers also believe that Twitter is particularly lenient with Trump, as the company benefits from worldwide attention for Trump’s tweets.
But having been eliminated, Trump loses the privilege of being able to interpret Twitter’s rules particularly broadly as president. Twitter confirmed to US media Engadget and The Verve that on January 20, 2021 – the inauguration day of his successor Joe Biden – the outgoing president would be stripped of his privileges. Subsequently, if the violations persist, the account may be initially blocked temporarily and eventually permanently.
Trump’s most important communication channel
Trump has nearly 90 million followers on Twitter. This is his private channel, the official Twitter profile of the President of the United States (@potus) currently has around 32.5 million followers and will be broadcast to Joe Biden in January, who has only been followed by 17.7 million so far. profiles. .
However, Biden uses Twitter in a fundamentally different way from Trump: he has posted about 6,800 tweets since 2007, while Trump has posted more than 58,000 since 2009. The president-elect has often tweeted himself and literally raged at political opponents and average. For Trump, Twitter is the most direct and most important way to reach audiences – for Biden’s team, however, it’s obviously just one of many important communication channels to reach audiences.
