D.Donald Trump’s attorneys are delving deeper and deeper into conspiracy theories in their attacks on the outcome of the lost presidential election. They claim, among other things, that the Democrats manipulated the elections with the help of the communists of Venezuela. They also insist on repeatedly refuted allegations that the software used in the count converted the votes for President Trump in favor of his victorious challenger Joe Biden.
At the same time, only on Thursday did Trump’s side lose in court cases in the states of Georgia, Pennsylvania and Arizona. In Georgia, a recount officially confirmed Biden’s victory. Trump’s side has garnered more than 30 court slaps so far, with little success. Longtime attorney and Trump’s confidant Rudy Giuliani offered the prospect of further legal action.
Biden called Trump’s obstructive stance “completely irresponsible”. Its refusal to recognize the result of the November 3 elections is damaging the reputation of democracy. As for Trump’s efforts to undermine the election result, Biden said he will go down in history as America’s “most irresponsible president”.
In a press conference Thursday, Trump’s legal team also said no evidence could be presented to reporters ahead of the ongoing proceedings. Furthermore, prominent witnesses did not want to appear before the general public. This did not prevent Giuliani from saying: “We cannot allow these criminals to steal the elections from the Americans. You voted for Donald Trump. You didn’t vote for Joe Biden ”. All electoral authorities have so far confirmed that there have been no frauds or serious errors that could put the election results into question.
Giuliani said, however, that he can prove that Trump didn’t actually lose the important state of Pennsylvania, but won it by a margin of 300,000 votes and Michigan by 50,000 votes. Among other things, the ballot papers were scanned several times. Giuliani’s statement: “I think it is a logical conclusion that there was a common plan that came directly from the Democratic Party and its candidate”. There was no evidence of this either. Giuliani was once a prosecutor himself and later mayor of New York.
Giuliani was angry during his performance and sweated, so much that the hair dye ran down the side of his face. Photos of the 76-year-old with brown cheek stripes have often been shared in online networks and maliciously commented on.
Attorney Sidney Powell went further: “What we’re really dealing with here is massive leverage of Communist money on Venezuela, Cuba and allegedly China for meddling in our elections.” It also claimed that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, who died in 2013, had backdoors built into the software used to count votes. Presumably it was possible because one vote cast for Biden was worth 1.25 votes. The software was used only when scanning the ballots. The electoral authorities emphasize that there is a paper receipt for each vote cast.
Christopher Krebs, who was recently sacked by Trump and was a senior government official responsible for election security, described the press conference on Twitter as “the most dangerous 1:45 TV in American history.” “And probably the craziest,” he added.
The results of the state are crucial to winning the presidential elections. The head of state is not elected directly by the people, but by the voters who cast their votes based on the results in their state. According to the calculations of the US media, the Democrat Biden has 306 voters behind him, it takes 270 for the election of the president. Pennsylvania is a particularly valuable state with 20 voters, Georgia has 16 votes, and Wisconsin has ten.
In Pennsylvania, the side of Trump, headed by Giuliani, is asking in a lawsuit, which has been reviewed for the second time, not to confirm the election result in the state at all. Instead, the local parliament – in which Republicans have a majority – should appoint the electorate. The goal: These elected voters should not vote for the winner of the Biden election on December 14, but for Trump.
In Michigan, Trump has a similar plan. He invited Republican members of the state parliament to join him in the White House. Legal expert Lawrence Tribe warned on CNN that such a meeting could be illegal. In any case, the chances of success are slim: Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey and House Speaker Lee Chatfield have been invited. Both have already ruled out ignoring the voters’ decision. “It’s not going to happen,” Shirkey told the Michigan Bridge local news site. Chatfield tweeted on November 6that “whoever gets the most votes wins in Michigan. End of the story.”
The manual review of the votes in Georgia has now been completed. There Biden was in the lead with about 14,000 votes before the recount began. Now the lead has shrunk to 12,284 votes. It was already foreseen: a few days ago it was discovered that the electoral commissions of two republican-governed districts had forgotten to include several thousand counted votes in the bill. Chief Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger pointed out that no signs of election fraud were found. However, Trump can still request a recount because the gap between the candidates is less than 0.5 percentage points.
