US elections: another defeat for Trump in court

One complaint after another and one defeat after another. Even the Pennsylvania Court of Appeals sees no evidence of election fraud. Trump’s chances of proving this are diminishing more and more.

Current US President Donald Trump suffered another setback in contesting the election results. A federal appeals court in the state of Pennsylvania dismissed Trump’s lawsuit as baseless. Defining an unfair election does not make the election unfair, Judge Stephanos Bibas wrote. “Lawsuits require specific charges and then evidence. We have neither nor here.”

Jenna Ellis, a Trump lawyer, criticized the decision on Twitter and spoke again of electoral fraud: “The activist machine of the Pennsylvania judiciary continues to cover up massive allegations of fraud.” Now they want to call the Washington Supreme Court, he continued.

The three judges of the appeals court had been appointed by the Republicans, Bibas also appointed by Trump himself. Their decision follows a harsh ruling by a lower court, also passed by a Republican.

Almost more chance of success

Trump does not admit defeat even more than three weeks after the election and goes on to say that there has been mass fraud. So far, however, it has not provided any reliable evidence of this. Several courts have dismissed numerous lawsuits from Trump and his Republican allies, including Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada. Even in a Supreme Court appeal, in which six of the nine judges are considered conservative, Trump is unlikely to succeed in light of the facts.

The latest lawsuit in Pennsylvania sought to invalidate millions of postal votes on fraud charges. However, the appellate court, like the lower court, said last week that Trump’s lawyers had not provided “clear evidence” of the alleged mass fraud.

Additionally, Democrat Joe Biden won the state election with about 81,000 votes, which is why alleged individual cases wouldn’t play a role, the appeals court said. And even if Pennsylvania’s 20th electorate was honored with Trump in the end, it couldn’t have reached Biden. According to data provider Edison Research, the Democrat is leading with 306 votes to 232.

Democrats lose their seat in the House of Representatives

But the Democrats also suffered defeats in this election. Biden’s party lost another seat in the House of Representatives. With David Valadao’s victory in a California district, Republicans have further narrowed the gap to Democrats, whose seats have grown from 232 to 221. With fewer than 219 terms, they would lose the majority.
