Donald Trump’s lawyers have withdrawn a lawsuit against the outcome of the Michigan state presidential election. They were able to prevent confirmation of the results in the Wayne County constituency, a statement read.
However, it was initially doubtful that this was actually the case. Without the county results, the confirmation of the vote could be held statewide. According to Reuters news agency, Joe Biden was officially declared the winner of the Michigan election this week.
However, the path to confirmation was far from smooth: in Wayne County, which also includes the city of Detroit, the two Republican members of the four-member election commission initially refused to confirm the results of the all start of this week.
No legal basis for withdrawal of confirmation
After public criticism and a compromise with plans for a partial overhaul, they gave in a little later. But then they decided to withdraw their consent – and made it clear in written statements to the court.
Trump’s lawyers attached these statements to the motion to withdraw the lawsuit. However, a spokesman for Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said there is no legal mechanism for members of an election commission to cancel confirmation of the results.
A member of the election commission told the Washington Post that Donald Trump had called her in the meantime. He continues to refuse to admit defeat in the presidential election, arguing that irregularities and manipulations have robbed him of victory in favor of his Democratic challenger Joe Biden. Neither Trump nor his lawyers have yet been able to present evidence of this.
In a series of tweets, the president of the United States recently raised new allegations, such as that there had been massive election fraud in Detroit for years. He didn’t have proof yet.
Review of the Pennsylvania lawsuit
The results of the state are crucial to winning the presidential elections. The head of state is not elected directly by the people, but by the voters who cast their votes based on the results in their state.
Headed by longtime Trump lawyer and confidant Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s team apparently has another lawsuit in the state Pennsylvania revised again. According to the dpa news agency, it is also a question of not confirming the election result. Instead, the local parliament – in which Republicans have a majority – should appoint the electorate. The electorate should therefore not vote for the winner of the Biden elections, but for the defeated Trump. In this way, Trump wants to secure the support of 20 voters who, according to the election results, are not his.
In the northern state Wisconsin there will be a recount in two large districts at the request of Trump’s side, as the election commission decided after Thursday night’s controversial deliberations. Biden is far superior in both districts.
Manual control of voices Georgia. There Biden was in the lead with about 14,000 votes before the recount began. However, due to errors made by employees in two Republican-controlled counties, 5,600 votes were not counted. With them, Biden’s lead narrowed to about 12,000 votes.
According to US media calculations, Biden has 306 voters behind him and 270 are needed for the presidential election. Michigan, for example, has the votes of 16 voters. Even with a victory in the state, Trump would still lack a certain number of voters.
