The spokesman for the UN Secretary General Stephane Dujarric, during the daily press conference questioned on the visit of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Varosha, said: “I can say that we are closely following the developments in Marash over the weekend”.
Stating that positions on Closed Varosha have not changed and have taken into consideration relevant UN Security Council resolutions, Dujarric said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on the island to avoid any unilateral steps that would increase tension on the island and would endanger future dialogue and negotiations.
Dujarric called for dialogue from all sides and noted that it is important to support both sides in a viable and comprehensive negotiation and stimulus of the political process.
“The way to a permanent solution in Cyprus is ultimately in the hands of the parties,” spokesman Dujarric said.
