The November 3 vote was “total fraud,” Trump said in a telephone interview with Fox News on Sunday. In the nearly hour-long conversation, Trump renewed his accusations that many dead people had voted and that the increase in postal votes would lead to “massive fraud.”
Trump has so far provided no reliable evidence of the alleged election fraud he has been talking about for weeks. US courts have already initiated numerous lawsuits aimed at challenging the election results and its Republican allies. It wasn’t until Friday that a federal judge who had once been appointed by Trump dismissed a major lawsuit in the state of Pennsylvania as unfounded. US authorities and election officials in states rated the vote as safe and successful – no known cases of serious fraud.
Trump (74) continues to refuse to acknowledge Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory (78). When asked by conservative Fox News presenter Maria Bartiromo if there was still a way to victory for him despite the defeats in court, Trump said, “I hope so.” He claimed to have received “thousands, tens of thousands” more votes than Biden in the decisive states. Social networks and especially the media – which he again called “enemies of the people” – have suppressed the truth, Trump said.
Trump also complained that it was very difficult to take his allegations to the Washington Supreme Court. There Trump is hoping for a home game because six of the nine judges are considered conservative, three of which have been appointed by him. “You need a Supreme Court that’s willing to make a really important decision,” he said. Trump’s failed lawsuits in lower courts make hopes for the Supreme Court seem unrealistic. Furthermore, even a favorable verdict on a dispute in a state would not be enough to help it win.
Biden was declared the winner by the US media after the election. According to the current tally, he was able to secure the votes of 306 voters, far more than the 270 votes needed for a victory. The constituency will elect the next president and vice president on December 14th. The result of the vote will not be officially announced until January 6. In view of the known election results, both steps are considered formalities. Biden (78) will be sworn in on January 20.
Trump has rarely appeared in public since the election. He avoided asking reporters questions until Thursday. When asked by a reporter, he said he would leave the White House of his own accord if Biden was elected by the constituency. Trump declined to comment on speculations that he plans to run for president again in 2024.
After the election, the Trump government initially refused to initiate the handover (“transition”) required by law and ordered to Biden. On Monday, however, the relevant agency caved in and paved the way for the Democrat and his team to gain access to government ministries, agencies and confidential information, as well as millions of dollars in salaries and other expenses, ahead of the inauguration. This Monday, Biden is expected to receive the strictly confidential briefing from the secret services for the first time, which normally only goes to the president.
