Tourist raises fights at Puerto Rico airport by refusing to wear a mask

A serious incident occurred at Luis Muñoz Marín de Carolina airport, near the Puerto Rican capital, when a tourist, identified as Adrien Williams, attacked an official who asked him to wear a mask.

Puerto Rico police reported this Sunday 29-N through a statement that the event was recorded on Saturday evening, when the tourist was involved in a violent incident in which several officials who performed health duties to control the ‘individual.

The incident was filmed on social media and shows Williams grappling with various officials, falling to the ground and trying to be reduced.

Comments on social media condemned the behavior of the tourist, who did not respect the health regulations of the Puerto Rico Executive, where in recent weeks there has been a worrying increase in infections and deaths from covid-19.

The confrontation took place in the covid-19 control area at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, located in the municipality of Carolina, near San Juan.

The brawl ended with Williams being arrested in the Terminal B area, according to the police report, for refusing to wear the mask, in violation of local health regulations.

The passenger also refused to offer the information the Department of Health collects from all passengers arriving on the Caribbean island.

One of the officers made a civil arrest on Williams.

The complainant, Nelson Juarbe, explained that Williams did not follow his instructions on using the mask and providing his personal data.

Lieutenant Fermín González, of the Carolina Police Region, reported that when a crime occurs in the presence of another person, the rules of criminal procedure authorize a civil arrest, which took place in this case.

Officer Ana Vargas, an employee of the airport district, who is investigating these events, set the corresponding charges for December 4 in the Carolina court.

The director of the Office of Health Investigations, Jesús Hernández, said that this is the first time that there has been a violent incident of these characteristics with a passenger in health control operations.

Hernández said that despite the spectacular nature of the case, there are enough staff at Luis Muñoz Marín airport to deal with this type of situation.

The incident began when Department of Health personnel approached the line to tell Williams that he should wear a mask.
