Although the day was unfolding peacefully, a group of policemen attacked the citizens with jets of water and tear gas, preventing popular concentration.

According to witnesses, the place is surrounded by police officers. Similarly, alternative journalists also denounced the attacks by the carabinieri against their work teams.

A few hours after the close of the election day, thousands of Chileans expected will gather in Plaza de la Dignidad to honor the victims of repression and celebrate a hypothetical victory for the change of the constitution in the southern country.

The Chileans will seek, through the vote, to convene a Constituent Assembly to change the current Magna Carta to one that guarantees fundamental rights and buryes the legacy of the Pinochet dictatorship.
