About presidential elections in the United States, who will define on November 3 whether Donald Trump will remain in the White House or whether Joe Biden will replace the controversial and current president, several Colombian politicians have spoken on the subject, caused reactions from US officials.
It is clear that in recent years the relationship between Colombia and the United States has strengthened, even during the presidency of Iván Duque, the high government of the North American country called the country of coffee. “The best ally in the whole hemisphere.”
Even so, that did not stop US Ambassador to Colombia, Philip S. Goldberg, on Monday, October 26, from urging Colombian politicians not to get involved in elections in his country.
“The success of US-Colombian relations over many years has been based on bipartisan support. I urge all Colombian politicians to avoid getting involved in the American elections, ”the ambassador wrote through his Twitter account.
And it is that in recent months, some of the Colombian politicians with the most influence in the country have posted comments on the elections in the United States on their social networks. We tell you who I am:
Human Colombia Senator Gustavo Petro entered this controversy for the first time when an advertisement for the “Latinos for Trump” campaign was broadcast in the United States, where they underlined it by saying:
Progressives like Gustavo Petro or Nicolás Maduro.
Trump did not hesitate to continue with the signal and said:
The previous administration surrendered to Colombia’s narco-terrorists. Is there anyone from Colombia here? You know what’s going on there, right? Biden even received the approval of the socialist Gustavo Petro.
Petro was silent in front of the signs and trilled:
María Fernanda Cabal, a senator from the Democratic Center, has made no secret of her support for Donald Trump’s candidacy.
One of his most remembered publications and which confirmed his support for the Republican candidate was the photo he posted on his Instagram account, where he is seen wearing a mask with the image of Trump and the phrase: “Trump 2020”
During the campaign, the Uribist senator also published articles in favor of the US president and candidate:
Senator Roy Barreras showed his support for Donald Trump’s competition with this tweet, where he stated his vote was for Joe Biden:
Uribist Senator Carlos Felipe Mejía shared videos in which he demonstrated his support for Trump’s candidacy and he compared the administration of former President Juan Manuel Santos with that of former US President Barack Obama.
For his part, the former presidential candidate Sergio Fajardo showed his support for Joe Biden’s candidacy:
Vélez is a Colombian-American and a Senator from the Democratic Center. His support for the Trump candidate was evident through his posts:
When former president Álvaro Uribe regained his freedom, thanked US president and candidate Donald Trump:
“I wholeheartedly appreciate the expressions of support from dignitaries: President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence of the United States, a country that has helped me and Colombia so much,” Uribe said.
Undoubtedly, these demonstrations of support for the various US candidates once again confirm the narrowness of Colombia’s relations with the United States, which will take different paths after the election of the new president.
