The world records new maximum cases and deaths in 24 hours – Executive Digest

A new “record” of new covid-19 infections and deaths was recorded within 24 hours. This Wednesday, November 11, more than 666,000 cases and 11,617 deaths in 24 hours were reported worldwide, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.

The new maximum number of cases registered this Wednesday exceeds the “record” set only last week. On Friday 6 November, over 641,000 cases were reported per day.

The United States remains the country most affected by the pandemic, in both deaths and infections, with a total of 242,430 deaths and 10,554,806 cases, according to Johns Hopkins data.

After the United States, the countries with the highest number of infections are India (with more than 8 million cases) and Brazil (with more than 5 million). These three countries are also those with the highest number of victims, globally.

The three countries in Europe with the most confirmed cases are France, with almost 2 million infected, Spain (1.4 million cases) and the United Kingdom (1.2 million).

The three European countries that have recorded the highest number of deaths from the new coronavirus are the United Kingdom (51 thousand), Italy (43 thousand) and France (42 thousand deaths).

This Thursday, Portugal recorded an additional 78 deaths related to covid-19, the highest number in a single day since the start of the pandemic, and 5,839 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus, according to the Directorate General of Health (DGS).

Portugal already has an accumulated incidence rate in the last two weeks higher than that of Spain (620.8 per 100 thousand inhabitants against 599.1), United Kingdom (471.81), United States of America (468.94), Sweden (439.72) and Germany (296.97), among others.
