The wife of the miner who died in Ermenek: they even saw the price paid for our lives.

18 miners were stranded on October 28, 2014, when the water accumulated in the old mine in the lignite quarry belonging to the Has Şekerler Mining Company flooded the furnace at Cenne, in the village of Pamuklu in the Ermenek district. After 38 days of relief, the lifeless bodies of 18 workers were removed.

On the 6th anniversary of the mining disaster, 18 miners were commemorated with a ceremony. The families of the miners who lost their lives in the disaster, the miners who started an action because they couldn’t get their salaries for 13 months, and the mayor of Ermenek Atilla Zorlu went to the miners’ graves and prayed.

“WORLD DECIDED”

Speaking with SÖZCÜ after his visit to the cemetery, Şadiye Çoksöyler explained their experiences as follows:

* On the day of the mining disaster, I was 26 and my wife 29. We have been married for 6 years. When my husband died, we had two daughters, one 3 months old and the other 5 years old.

* I found out that the accident occurred in the market I went to to meet household needs. My grandson’s father-in-law said there was an accident due to the explosion of water in the mine where my wife was staying.

* I ran from place to place, unsure what to do with my 3 month old baby in my arms. After learning that my husband is also dead, my world has gone black. My children still ask me about their father. My throat gets knotted, I can’t say anything.

“OUR COMPENSATION RIGHTS ARE NOT PAID”

Stating that no compensation was given after her husband’s death, Çoksöyler said: “We live in the village of Aşağıçağlar with my 2 children after the accident. We are cultivating. We were promised all our rights after the accident, but our compensation has not yet been paid. They do not give the right to my 2 children. They also saw how to pay for our lives, “he said.

“IT HAS PASSED 6 YEARS, BUT THE TITLE OF THE CERTIFICATE IS NOT GIVEN”

Noting that the authorities failed to keep their promises that miners who lost their lives would be considered martyrs, Çoksöyler continued as follows:

* Many officials came here after the mining disaster. At that time, I was told that my wife would be given the title of martyr. Six years have passed since the accident, but the title of martyrdom has not yet been conferred.

* Sometimes I take our children to the hospital. I say martyr children, but this time they want a martyr card. My challenge is only for my children.

* This is why we continue to seek our rights together with the wives of other miners, who have worked in other Ermenek mines but have not been paid for months.

“OPPRESSION HAS NEVER CHANGED”

Speaking with Sözcü on the 6th anniversary of the mining disaster, CHP deputy Karaman İsmail Atakan Ünver said:

* An Armenian mining boy, Osman Selvi, is the image of the government and the people who exploit the work of the miner for the miner. The persecution has never changed. Osman Çoksöy’s son, whom we lost 6 years ago in the mine today, was 3 months old at the time.

* Today, with his mother, saying “We don’t want charity, we want our rights”, he is walking in search of justice with his father’s friend, uncles miners and looking for his right.

* I am looking for the bread of the cow, the boss who takes the rights of the worker, and the power that ignores this boss is the rent. Our miners don’t steal, scourge, or chase rent. He wants his rights in exchange for the sweat on his forehead.

* Give the miner the right, never forget the 18 quarry where the fire was fired, nor the miner who has been pursuing his rights for months!

* Because they will never forget you and will never forget! We have not forgotten them and we will never forget them, our fellow workers and all our mining martyrs who seek their right to their forehead.
