(MENAFN – Khaleej Times) Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, representative of the ruler in the Al Dhafra region and chairman of the Emirati Red Crescent (ERC), said the UAE, under the leadership of the president, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is launching humanitarian and development initiatives to achieve security, peace and stability in turbulent areas around the world.
Sheikh Hamdan added that the current year, 2020, has seen progress in terms of ERC programs and projects both inside and outside the country, thanks to the support of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. , Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces, enhancing the capabilities of the ERC and expanding the its overall scope of work.
“This is reflected in the scale of programs and projects carried out both inside and outside the country from the beginning of the year until September, worth over Dh766 million,” said Sheikh Hamdan as he led the second. ERC 2020 Board of Directors meeting, which was held remotely via videoconference.
“Philanthropists and donors play a significant role in supporting the ERC’s activities and programs,” he added, praising the role of volunteers in supporting the ERC’s humanitarian and development activities.
During the meeting, the ERC Governing Board reviewed the reports submitted by the Secretary General on the Authority’s achievements and on the programs and projects implemented over the past nine months both inside and outside the country, valued at Dh766,296,354.
The council also discussed several humanitarian initiatives launched this year, including the Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan Remote Learning Initiative in refugee camps in Jordan and Iraqi Kurdistan, and the response to the floods and outbreak of the coronavirus in Sudan and Syria.
The board then reviewed development projects initiated in Yemen’s Hadramaut Governorate as well as the Comoros Islands, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Fiji, and was briefed on the progress of ERC development projects in the UAE, such as Ataya Medical Center in Sharjah; the establishment of a park in Wadi Isfini in Ras Al Khaimah; and the construction of a shopping center in Al Mirfa, in the Al Dhafra region; a residential building in Bani Yas; and two other residential buildings in Al Ain and Khalifa City in Abu Dhabi.
