Germany reported 11,409 new cases of infection in the past 24 hours on Tuesday, nearly double the same day last week, when 6,868 infections were reported.

According to the Robert Koch Institute, a total of 449,275 people have been infected with the novel coronavirus, of which 10,098 have died.

Most Germans expect drastic measures as the number of infections increases, according to a YouGov survey commissioned by dpa.
