Police found Rios’ body in a town of Bravo, Medellin, according to the Mexican press.
Florisel Rios, the mayor of the city of Jamapa in the Mexican state of Veracruz, was kidnapped by gunmen earlier this week.
State Governor Cuitlahuac Garcia condemned the murder and said, “We have requested speedy investigation from the state attorney to find the perpetrators. All trials and investigations will be completed in detail so that this does not go unpunished and the perpetrators are found.
More than 60 mayors of Mexico have been killed by organized crime gangs since 2006.
