The Irish government unveiled its plan on Friday to allow the Irish to come out of their second quarantine on 1 December and spend Christmas with their families, despite the second wave of COVID-19, AFP reports, found in Agerpres.
“The efforts and sacrifices of each of us have paid off. Lives have been saved,” Prime Minister Michael Martin told Irish public broadcaster RTE, saying that from 1 December there would be less stringent restrictions to limit the spread of the virus. “By making them more flexible, we will go as far as possible to find the best balance between health, economic and social considerations,” he added.
The Irish government announced a six-week national quarantine in mid-October, during which all non-essential shops were closed, family visits were banned, but schools remained open.
What measures are relaxed
From 1 December, they will be able to reopen museums, art galleries, cinemas, libraries and places of worship, as well as non-essential shops, gyms and swimming pools, but only for individual training..
The Irish will have to wear masks on the street and in crowded workplacesas well as in places of worship.
Restaurants and bars they will be able to receive their customers again from December 4th, but without people from different families settling at the same table, which they still have prohibition of mixing.
This important restriction, just like no travel outside the county of residence or overseas (except for work) it will be anyway raised from 18 December to 6 January, for an extended period that includes year-end holidays, the government said.
Up to three families can come together in an enclosed space.
Restrictions return after January 7th
“This will not be the kind of Christmas we are used to, but it will be a very special time in which we can relax a little from the difficulties of 2020 and from those of the last few weeks in particular,” said Prime Minister Martin.
The “relaxation” of Christmas will end on January 7 and the country will then revert to restrictions in place before December 18Frequently “re-evaluated” according to the evolution of the pandemic which has already killed more than 2,000 people in Ireland.
