With the introductions of two of his daughters, what is imagined as the complex and tortuous succession process for Diego Armando Maradona, who passed away on November 25, began. The accident took place in the house he had rented just two weeks earlier in lot 45 in the private neighborhood of San Andrés, in Tigre.
According to judicial sources, the first case was filed in the courts of Buenos Aires, in the Civil Court No. 44. It was created by Jana Maradona, born in 1996, the result of the relationship between the greatest idol of world football and Valeria Sabalain.
The second presentation to start the succession process for Maradona’s assets took place at the Civil Court no. 15 of San Isidro, chaired by the Magistrate Mariano Luis Vieyra. The file launched by the Buenos Aires justice was drawn up at the San Isidro Civil Chamber and already has a case number: 22972/2020. It would have been introduced by Dalia Nerea Maradona, the star’s eldest daughter and who was his first wife, Claudia Villafañe.
Judicial sources indicated that, for reasons of jurisdiction, the magistrate could declare incompetence and send the file to the corresponding court according to the domicile of the deceased, in this case Diego Maradona.
Although the world football star died in the San Andrés district of Dique Luján, the jurisdiction of the civil action will correspond to the courts of the place where Maradona had his legal residence, in Segurola and Habana, in Villa Devoto.
Three years ago, Maradona’s estate was estimated at around $ 25,000,000, although in the past 36 months it could have risen to $ 40,000,000 from the signing of several contracts.
Heirs of Maradona
So far, his daughters Dalma, Gianinna and Jana would appear as heirs; little Diego Fernando, born from the relationship of the Ten with Verónica Ojeda, and Diego Junior, who lives in Naples (where his mother, Cristiana Sinagra gave birth) and would join the process for the succession initiated by Jana.
As for the possibility that other eventual heirs may arise, they must face a filiation or paternity request before appearing in the succession process.
This means that they will have to prove the connection with the former footballer through a legal presentation and a DNA analysis. Faced with this eventuality, during Maradona’s autopsy, at least six cards were made with blood samples that will be useful in future and eventual filiation processes.
Due to the plurality of heirs, the number of countries in which Maradona would have his assets located (Venezuela, Dubai, Belarus, Mexico and the United States, among others) and a list of nearly 60 cases against the Ten distributed in different courts, the trial Due to the succession of the world football star, it will become a complex, tortuous and difficult process for the magistrate who, by rule of law, must take responsibility.
