The interrogated president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, explained Sunday that, in “preclinical studies”, a group of Venezuelan researchers identified and isolated “a molecule belonging to a medicinal plant” that inhibits the coronavirus 100%.
According to a statement from the People’s Power Ministry for Science and Technology, Maduro said it is the DR-10 molecule and that it is a highly effective antiviral component against the novel coronavirus.
At the moment, there is no scientific evidence to support the claims of the Venezuelan authorities.
Up to this Tuesday, according to data from the Maduro government, Venezuela has recorded 777 deaths related to the coronavirus and over 90,000 cases. Of these patients, authorities say 84,444 have recovered.
