The hypothesis of the assassination of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the head of the Iranian nuclear program using a remotely controlled Israeli-made weapon, remains highly plausible, although it has not been officially confirmed, given that an Israeli company has been showing up since July. 2020 model of a remote-controlled machine gun capable of tracking and setting targets automatically and can be controlled wirelessly via a tablet: a detached scene as if straight from the Hollywood blockbuster, “The Jackal”, is shown in an analysis of The Drive.
Ali Shamkhani, general of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, is the first officer to say that the assassination was carried out with a remote-controlled weapon.
“The enemy used a completely new, professionally executed method, style and path to achieve the goal,” Shamkhani said at the funeral of the former head of the Iranian nuclear program.
The attack took place on Friday in the city of Absard, located on the outskirts of Tehran, according to the Fars agency. Witnesses heard gunshots and explosions, which allegedly targeted the vehicle Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was in.
“On Friday afternoon, armed terrorist elements attacked a car carrying Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the head of the Defense Ministry’s research and innovation department. During the clash between his security team and the terrorists, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh was seriously injured and taken in hospital. Unfortunately, the medical team was unable to save him and, a few moments ago, the scientist became a martyr “, stated in a statement from the Tehran Defense Ministry, after the assassination.
The attack occurred after the column of cars passed a curve
According to Iranian sources, during the ambush, Fakhrizadeh and his wife headed to Absard. The two were in a black Nissan sedan that was part of a four-car column.
Shortly after the column rounded a bend, a remote-controlled machine gun on a blue Nissan truck parked nearby began firing at Fakhrizadeh’s car.
The car was hit, then stopped, at which point the Iranian researcher would have gotten out of the vehicle, apparently without realizing that the noises in the body were caused by the bullets.
The machine gun continued firing and Fakhrizadeh was shot from the side and back. At least one bullet severed his spine, according to Iranian media.
One of Fakhrizadeh’s bodyguards was also injured as she jumped on him in an attempt to protect him.
Eventually, the Nissan truck from which the fire was fired exploded.
So far it is unclear how many victims, apart from Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, there have been in total.
“The gun raised at the scene of the terrorist attack bears the logo and specifications of the Israeli military industry,” a source told Press TV.
Despite these claims, no images were transmitted of the machine gun, its remains, or that of the remote-controlled rifle the weapon was attached to.
When Hollywood fiction is similar to reality near Tehran, passing through Israel
The idea of such a weapon automatically reminds us of the one used by the main negative hero, played by Bruce Willis, in the 1997 film “The Jackal”, when he attempted to kill the First Lady of the USA using a machine gun. heavy remote control, camouflaged in a van.
Beyond the fiction, the reality is at least as spectacular. From 2017-2018, the concept of such a weapon produced by the Israeli company Smart Shooter was featured in all kinds of promotional videos.
The system can also be installed on a special device and transformed into the so-called SMASH Hopper, also known as “Light Remote-Controlled Weapon Station” (LRCWS).
Said “system” combines a normal assault weapon to which a computerized aiming system is added. The weapon is connected to a remotely operated device, which can be a tripod or pedestal that can be fixed to the ground or a vehicle.
With the help of the computerized firing system, a human operator can scan and fix a certain target and give the command to “fire”. Orders can be placed wirelessly via a tablet.
The Iranian dilemma: admitting Israelis were better or admitting their security guards were incapable
Therefore, according to The Drive, it is very likely that the possible assassination team used, in the case of the Fakhrizadeh murder, such a device fixed on the infamous Nissan truck and operated remotely.
At the same time, however, it is equally possible that the hypothesis of the “intelligent machine gun” is just an excuse of the Iranian secret services, which, taken aback, justify this breach of security by the fact that “the enemy used a method , a completely new style and path, “said Shamkhani, a senior Iranian official.
Just as is the “hybrid” variant possible, in which the car, with its remote-controlled machine gun, really existed, but only with a diversionary role in the attack, while other killers, humans, were the ones who pressed and were directly responsible for the killing of the Iranian official.
