The famous village of Fucking in Upper Austria changes its name. The place with about 100 inhabitants, which had to complain about stolen toponymy signs due to the same name with an obscene English term, has been called Fugging since January 1st. Before that, there are still some administrative steps, said the mayor of the mother community of Tarsdorf, Andrea Holzner, on Thursday at the “OE24” station. The decision of the Tarsdorf city council in mid-November was published earlier this week in the official city council in the district of Braunau am Inn.
According to media reports, there have been frequent considerations by the ailing Fuckinger to change their place name in recent years. The village appears on international lists of funny place names, place signs have been stolen over and over again. On the other hand, last fall some residents used the attention for symbolic purposes and formed puns with posters with particularly drastic demands around the place name sign.
