Estonian Education Minister Mailis Reps resigned on Friday after media reports said he used a state-supplied car and driver to take his children to school, Agerpres reports.
According to the tabloid Ohtuleht, a ministry driver used a service car several times to take the children of Minister Mailis Reps to school and take them home.
“I was under great pressure to reconcile the role of minister and mother. I admit I was wrong and I apologize,” Mailis Reps wrote on Facebook.
After these facts became public, the 45-year-old minister – mother of six – admitted that she recently used the service car several times for private purposes. But despite the revelations and pressures from the news, he initially wanted to remain a minister. Prime Minister Juri Ratas, who defended him, said he had “unfortunately” accepted the resignation of his party colleague.
The education portfolio holder is the third member of the government to step down this month.
