The Egyptian FM Shoukry arrives in Moscow to discuss bilateral relations

CAIRO – October 27, 2020: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry arrived in Moscow on Tuesday to hold talks with Russian officials and discuss strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Shoukry expected to discuss Middle East peace efforts and the situation in Libya, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen with Russian officials during his meetings.

Upon his arrival, Shoukry was eager to attend the videoconference meeting on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

During their meeting, the Egyptian ministers of foreign affairs and irrigation stressed the need to reach a binding legal agreement on the filling and functioning of Ethiopia’s Renaissance dam as per resolutions adopted at the relevant meetings of the Union Office African.

The Sudanese side asked to hold several meetings over a period of one week to complete the compilation and revision of the draft agreement, which the three sides began working on during their latest round of talks, and to discuss the best ways to conduct the next negotiations.

The meeting was chaired by the Foreign Minister of South Africa, in the presence of representatives of the African Union, the European Union and the United States as observers.
