The Federal Office of Armaments (Armasuisse) has received offers for new combat aircraft from government agency manufacturing companies, in particular from Germany (Airbus Eurofighter), France (Dassault Rafale) and the United States (Boeing F / A-18 Super Hornet and Lockheed-Martin F-35A), according to a press release from the Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sports (VBS) on Wednesday evening.
Second offers for new ground air defense systems with greater range (Bodluv) also arrived on Wednesday. On the table are offers from France (Eurosam SAMP / T) and the USA (Raytheon Patriot).
With the information from the second round of offers and the results of the various testing activities, the overall benefit of each system will now be determined, writes Armasuisse.
Type decision in the second quarter of 2021
The results, together with a comprehensive risk analysis, would feed into independent assessment reports in which the respective overall benefits of the new fighter aircraft or Bodluv are compared with the purchase and operating costs for 30 years.
The evaluation reports are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2021. The Federal Council’s model decision is expected for both systems in the second quarter of 2021.
In January, the federal government invited government agencies of the four manufacturing companies to submit a second offer based on the analysis of the first offer.
