ADDIS ABEBA, 19 Jan. (Xinhua) – A Chinese cultural troupe on Friday night staged colorful shows to celebrate the upcoming spring festival in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa.
The cultural event that has seen acrobats, ethnic songs and dances of the company of the autonomous region of Mongolia in the north of China has seen the participation of people including Chinese citizens and Ethiopians living in Addis Ababa.
Speaking with Xinhua, Yang Ying, Chinese director of the Confucius Institute at the University of Addis Ababa, said that the Chinese Lunar New Year is the most important festival in China that brings together family and friends.
The year of the pig in the Chinese lunar calendar will begin on 5 February 2019.
Genet Dagnchew, an Ethiopian participant in the performance of the Chinese cultural company, said that the cultural show will favor the already strong ties between Ethiopia and China.
"The cultural show was a lot of fun, I liked the diversity and beauty of Chinese culture and this kind of cultural exhibit will further strengthen the ties between Ethiopia and China," Dagnchew told Xinhua.
He said that the cultural performance he witnessed gave her the idea of traveling to China to experience the culture and lifestyle of the country.
"I've never been to China, but from what I've heard and from the cultural performance I've seen, I want to visit China to observe Chinese culture," Dagnchew said.
