At least 34 people died in an armed attack on a bus in the western Ethiopian state of Benshagul Gumuz, an area hit by repeated attacks on civilians in recent weeks.

“The victims are 34, but they are likely to increase” in the next few hours, the Ethiopian Commission for Human Rights (ECHR) said today in a statement, in which it expressed its condemnation for the attack perpetrated on Saturday evening.
According to the text, gunmen broke into the bus in the administrative area of Debate, located in the Meketel area, while “similar attacks” were committed in three other areas, causing people to flee “seeking refuge”.
On 7 October, 14 civilians were killed in a similar attack in Dangur district, also in the western state of Benshagul Gumuz, where more than 20 people were also killed in a first attack carried out in late September.
