KINSHASA (Reuters) – The African Union has called on the Democratic Republic of Congo on Thursday to suspend the release of the final results of its disputed presidential election due to its doubts about interim results.

The final tally is scheduled to be released by the electoral commission once the constitutional court has decided on the challenges for the provisional results on Friday, but the union has demanded that this be postponed following a meeting in Addis Ababa.

"The heads of state and government present at the meeting concluded that there were serious doubts about the compliance of the provisional results as proclaimed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, with the verdict of the polls," he said in a statement.
