The Dominican government announced on Saturday 14-N that it had opened an investigation after hearing a complaint against a diplomat from that country, accused of trafficking and prostitution of minors in Argentina.

The investigation was opened following a complaint from actor Juan Fernández, who revealed in an interview that a Dominican diplomat sent minors from his country to Argentina to prostitute them in a club.

“They are all girls of 13 and 14, (…) maybe one who is 16,” said the actor in a video interview on José Peguero’s Las Exclusivas program.

The actor assured that he himself visited the local prostitution in Argentina, where Dominican minors are exploited, after learning of their existence during a trip to the South American country.

In the interview, Fernández did not disclose the name of the diplomat allegedly involved nor did he specify the location of the prostitution shop, although he did specify that it is “two blocks” long.

After learning of these statements, Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez reported this Saturday of the opening of an investigation with the embassy in Argentina “and by other means”.

“Mirex (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) became aware of a public complaint relating to alleged child trafficking. Given its seriousness, an investigation was initiated at our embassy in Argentina and through other means, including contact with Milagros Ortiz Bosch, Ethics and Integrity Director. He will be reported, “the Chancellor said on his personal Twitter account.
