The 21-year-old American accused of killing a couple and kidnapping his thirteen-year-old daughter chose the teenager when he saw her get on a school bus, according to a court document published Monday.
Jake Patterson appeared in video, from his cell, in front of a judge in Barron County, in the state of Wisconsin (northern United States).
The accused, with a childish and not expressive face, is accused of murder and kidnapping for whom he can be sentenced to life imprisonment.
Patterson acknowledged the facts from his arrest on Thursday, just after Jayme Closs, who has been in captivity for nearly three months in an isolated area of the Great Lakes region, managed to escape.
According to the accusation, when the police stopped his vehicle, he admitted: "I did it".
Under arrest, he explained how he killed James and Denise Closs, aged 56 and 46 respectively, on October 15 at his home near the town of Barron, only to kidnap his daughter.
The young man, who did not have a steady job, had seen her get on a school bus one morning. Without knowing her, he knew that "that was the girl" he would have kidnapped, assured the researchers.

Before finalizing his plan, he went at least twice to the family home, but returned due to the presence of visitors.
Armed with a gun from his father, he returned to the Closs on October 15th. Before shaving his hair and beard, he wore gloves and a hood.
Once in place, he immediately killed his father in front of the door. Then he forced the bathroom door where mother and daughter had taken refuge.
After ordering Denise Closs to cover her daughter's mouth, she shot him in the head and put the teenager in the trunk of the car.
He then held Jayme Closs in his home in a secluded area near the town of Gordon, about 100 kilometers north of Barron.
When he received visitors, he forced her to hide under a bed. I even played the radio to cover any noise.
Menacing and violent, he had ordered her to stay under the bed every time she left. But Thursday took advantage of one of his absences to escape.
After a night in the hospital, she was assigned to an aunt on Friday, who posted a photo of her while she was playing with her dog this weekend. His grandfather Robert Naiberg said that the girl "was exceptionally aware of what she had lived".
