A stabbing took place in the French city of Nice. At least three people were killed and many more injured after a knife-wielding suspect attacked them in a downtown cathedral. One of the victims was beheaded.
UPDATE 11:45. According to a new report, three people died and the attacker was seriously injured.
According to the French press, the man attacked several people with a knife on Thursday morning in the Notre Dame church in Nice. Two people died, a man and a woman. The woman was beheaded.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin announced that a crisis meeting has been called.
The suspect was shot by the police and taken to hospital.
The attack took place on Thursday morning, at 9:00 local time.
The mayor of Nice announced that the attack appears to be of a terrorist nature.
The new attack comes after the one in Paris two weeks ago, when a history teacher was beheaded on the street after showing children caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad. The terrorist attack in Paris was committed by an 18-year-old Chechen, born in Moscow, who was not registered as radicalized.
Nice was also the scene of a terrible attack in 2016, causing 86 deaths and hundreds of injured.
