STRIKE Amazon employees went on STRIKE, even on Black Friday – Source News

German union Verdi has asked employees working at seven Amazon.com stores in Germany to take part in a three-day strike, which also includes BlackFriday’s November 27 discounted sales, Reuters reports.

The strike, which began with the shift on Wednesday evening, was called for better wages and working conditions.

Verdi has been on strike at Amazon in Germany, the company’s largest market outside the United States, since 2013, according to News.ro.

The latest protest took place during Amazon’s “Prime Day” promotional event. A spokesperson for the company then said that Amazon offers “excellent” salaries, with benefits and working conditions similar to those of other major employers.

Amazon’s sales increased dramatically during restrictions imposed by governments around the world to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus, prompting customers to shop more online.

Verdi argues that this justifies the increase in wages, adding that they are not sufficiently protected from the spread of the new coronavirus.

Last week, Amazon gave in to pressure from the French government and postponed its local Black Friday event by a week to help local stores hit by national quarantine.
