But on Monday, Somalia appeared to have changed its initial stance on the crisis in Ethiopia, with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo allegedly supporting ongoing military actions in the Tigray region, which resulted in mass deaths and displacement of people.
Gedu Andargachew, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s National Security Advisor, visited Mogadishu where he held meetings with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, where he would express Ethiopia’s willingness to continue helping Somalia stabilize.
Jamaluddin Omar, Ethiopia’s ambassador to Somalia, said the adviser obtained from Farmajo an assurance that Somalia fully supports the Ethiopian National Defense Forces. Ethiopia was instrumental in the fight against Al-Shabaab in Somalia, but there are reports that some non-Amisom troops left after the operation in Tigray. But not all of Ethiopia’s actions in Somalia are in good books with the locals, especially those in the opposition.
