Soldier killed five centuries ago found in the lake in Lithuania

Five centuries later, a soldier was found dead during an underwater inspection of the pillars of the old Dubingiai bridge in Lithuania, built in the 1930s.

According to Impala, citing one of the archaeologists involved, “although the remains were under a sediment layer, we are not in the context of deliberate burial or storage. Most likely, these sediment layers have accumulated over the years and with the movement of the waters ”.

After examining the body, scientists from the Vilnius University Faculty of Medicine claimed that it was a very young male who died somewhere during the 16th century. “According to reports from the excavation, several personal belongings were found next to the body, suggesting that it was a soldier. The clothes, the leather boots, the sword and a series of objects and ornaments ”will be the obvious indicator that he was a soldier.

According to the same source, this is the first time in Lithuania that a soldier has been found in this context, which is an important fact to add to the knowledge of medieval European soldiers.
