Patriarch Irenaeus of Serbia was hospitalized after being tested positive for the new coronavirus, Serbian Orthodox Church officials were quoted as saying by DPA according to romaniatv.net.

“Patriarch Irenaeus tested positive in a routine procedure. He is asymptomatic and generally feels well”, reads a statement from the Serbian Orthodox Church.

His Blessed Father was admitted to a COVID hospital in Belgrade.

The high prelate is 90 years old and recently attended the funeral of another Serbian prelate, Metropolitan Amfilohie, who died of coronavirus infection. Thousands of people attended the funeral, many without protective masks.

Several officials appointed to the future Montenegrin government, including prime minister-designate Zdravko Krivokapic, were among the participants who wore no masks.

A well-known Montenegrin doctor said the funeral, which took place over two days, was “an outbreak” and recommended that the authorities ban it.
