Announcing that one of the men in the Ashes was between 30 and 40 years old and his social status was superior, officials announced that the owner of the second body was between 18 and 23 years old and that he was a slave.
Explaining that the lifeless bodies were found in the northwest, 700 meters from the center of ancient Pompeii, officials said: “They were found in the basement of a large villa under investigation. “The teeth and bones of the remains are very well preserved and the wounds in their soft tissues are covered with ash.”
The scientists announced that the positions of the two men’s hands and feet indicated that they were experiencing thermal shock.
The director of the archeology team, Massimo Osanna, said: “From the position of their bodies, we imagine that these two men were looking for a refuge to escape the explosion at 9:00 am. They died of thermal shock and this can be understood from the condition of their hands and feet ”.
Dario Franceshini, Minister of Culture, said that Pompeii is a very important archaeological site and said: “It is a great area of research and work”.
The ruins of Pompeii, 23 kilometers northeast of Naples, were not discovered until the 16th century. The first works in the region began in 1750.
