Russian developers of the COVID-19 vaccine, Sputnik V, said AstraZeneca should combine its vaccine with the Russian one in order to increase its efficiency, Reuters informs.

Russia announced that the Sputnik vaccine is 92% effective in protecting against COVID-19, according to preliminary data, while the vaccine developed by AstraZeneca is 70% effective, according to a large-scale clinical study.

“If clinical trials resume, we suggest trying a treatment that combines the AstraZeneca vaccine with Sputnik to increase its effectiveness,” Russian developers of the vaccine said in a Twitter post.

“The combination of vaccines could be useful for revaccinations.”

AstraZeneca has announced that 200 million doses of the vaccine will be available by the end of 2020.

With over 2.1 million cases, Russia ranks 4th in the world, after the United States, India and Brazil, in terms of the number of people infected with COVID-19.

AstraZeneca will resume testing globally to evaluate the effectiveness of the COVID vaccine, said the company’s head, Pascal Soriot.
