Michael Flynn lied to the FBI about the Russian affair – now Trump has forgiven him

The US president forgives his former security adviser Michael Flynn, who lied to FBI agents. And he continues his campaign against defeat in the presidential elections. Meanwhile, just in time for Thanksgiving, Joe Biden spreads a message of unity.

The new American president gave a speech on Wednesday with a grave expression. The day before Thanksgiving, Joe Biden encouraged Americans to deepen the crown crisis and said, “America will not lose this war, we will get our lives back. Life will return to normal, I promise you. “The Democrat also reminded the American people that America was at war with a virus, not a civil war.

Trump begnadigt Flynn

The outgoing US president, however, used the day before the long weekend to push the division forward in the country. Donald Trump decided on Wednesday to forgive “completely” his former confidant Michael Flynn. Flynn, who was alongside Trump as a National Security Advisor for three weeks at the start of his term, admitted to federal court on December 1, 2017 that he lied to FBI agents. As a result, Flynn had not told federal police officers the truth about his talks with the Russian ambassador in Washington, which he had had around the end of 2016.

However, Flynn later changed his mind about the investigation against him, suddenly claiming that the FBI had set a trap for him. Trump, who had fired him for his lies, leapt to his side and protested that the “Deep State” had made the retired three-star general a pawn to overthrow him, the unorthodox president. More recently, the Justice Department under Attorney General William Barr decided in the spring of 2020 to drop the charges against Flynn. A federal judge in Washington, however, opposed approving this request without resistance.

With Trump’s term expiring in two months, the president has decided to let Flynn jump. Under the US constitution, the president has the authority to end criminal prosecutions at the federal level. Flynn, his former partner, with whom Trump spent a lot of time in the 2016 election campaign, was an “innocent man,” the White House said in a written statement.

Trump still claims he won

However, if Trump has his way, he won’t be taking early retirement on January 20, 2021, but will begin his second term. To achieve this, however, he must first convince a little more than half of the country that he legitimately won the 2020 presidential election.

So Wednesday, the president phoned an event organized by Republican lawmakers at a hotel in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania on the subject of election fraud. Also present was his lawyer Rudy Giuliani, who claimed that the “corrupt” Democrats deprived the president of his victory. And not just in Pennsylvania, but also in Virginia, for example. (In that state, Biden won by 10 percentage points or 451,000 votes.)

Then Giuliani once again speculated on how this fraud should have unfolded – note the theories the lawyer did not put forward in a courtroom because he should have expected consequences if he lied to a judge. Trump, in turn, said, “All we need is a judge,” who carefully examines all the evidence.

But it doesn’t look like that, not even three weeks after election day. And most importantly, Republicans have failed to find evidence to support their theories in court. And this is being noticed not only by the Democrats, but increasingly by the President’s party friends as well. Tom Ridge, the former Pennsylvania governor who voted for Joe Biden in the presidential election, complained bitterly about Trump on Twitter.

The best cartoons that aptly describe Trump’s departure in installments

A look at the electoral chaos in the US through the eyes of cartoonists.

Donald Trump wants to make the handover to Joe Biden possible. This marks the beginning of his departure, even if the president still does not admit his electoral defeat. The United States still has a few turbulent weeks ahead of them, and a lot can happen before Trump leaves for good. But it’s a good time, at least for cartoonists.

Trump ranks bankruptcy after bankruptcy: after Georgia and Michigan, Pennsylvania and Nevada officially confirmed Joe Biden’s victory. Before that …
