Kuril dispute between Russia and Japan
At the end of World War II, the Soviet Union annexed the Kuril Islands in 1945, which stretched for approximately 1,300 kilometers, separating Japan’s Pacific Ocean from the Sea of Okhotsk.
After the annexation, due to the dispute over the territory, called by Japan “Northern Regions”, the parties are unable to reach a result in the negotiations between Russia and Japan for the signing of a peace agreement.
