Italy has confirmed in the last 24 hours 993 new deaths associated with COVID-19, the worst toll recorded in this country since the beginning of the pandemic, in mid-February, according to the newsletter sent Thursday by the Italian Ministry of Health, according to the EFE , quoted by Agerpres.

The total number of deaths associated with the new coronavirus thus reaches 58,138 in Italy.

23,225 new cases of infection were confirmed on Thursday, the biggest increase in the past four days. But the number of tests has also increased in the past 24 hours, with over 226,000 diagnostic tests being processed.

However, this number of new cases of infection, coupled with intensive testing, indicates a flattening of the infection curve, after around 40,000 new cases were registered every day in November.

Of the 759,982 people currently considered active cases, the majority are in home isolation, while 35,369 needed hospitalization, of which 3,597 in ATI.

As in the spring wave, the most affected region is Lombardy, where more than a third of the deaths reported on Thursday occurred.

On Thursday evening, Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte should announce new restrictions to limit the spread of the virus, especially during the holidays, for which the ban on leaving the place of residence has already been decided.
