Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday issued an order to health authorities to begin mass vaccination against the novel coronavirus in Russia, starting next week, “Reuters” said.
«Let’s face it, mass vaccination will start next week. We have to start working now, “Putin told Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova, according to the same American agency.
Healthcare professionals and teachers will be the first to receive the viral disease vaccine, in a country that currently has a total of 2,347,401 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus, as well as 41,053 deaths and 1,830,349 patients recovered from the start of the public health crisis.
It is recalled that on November 21, Russia announced that its Sputnik V vaccine against covid-19, developed by the Gamaleya National Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology in Moscow, was 95% effective after preliminary results.
In a statement, the Gamaleya National Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology and the Russian Fund for Direct Investment (FIDR) said the vaccine showed, 42 days after the first dose, more than 95% effectiveness and that it will cost less than 10 dollars (about eight euros) the dose.
According to preliminary data from the second analysis, the effectiveness of the Russian vaccine after 28 days is 91.4%. In this sense, the clinical analyzes showed, for an efficacy of 91.4%, a total of 39 infected, between the volunteers who received a placebo (31) and those who received the vaccine (eight).
A total of 14,095 volunteers received the vaccine and 4,699 the placebo, according to the official statement. About 40,000 volunteers participated in phase three, more than half received the first dose and the rest the first and second. During the analyzes, the Russian experts did not detect any “unexpected” adverse reactions to the vaccine among the volunteers.
The FIDR noted that the price, less than $ 10 per dose, is double that of vaccines that use mRMA, namely the American company Moderna and Pfizer. In addition, Russia has already started production of the dehydrated vaccine, based on freeze-drying technology, which will greatly facilitate its transport to international markets.
