Police violence in the US: National Guard units sent to Philadelphia after protests and clashes

Protests continue that began Monday night after police shot and killed a 27-year-old black teenager in Philadelphia, United States. It has been announced that more police will be sent to the city and National Guard units will be deployed to the city.

Authorities announced that 30 policemen were injured in night clashes between demonstrators and security forces.

Dozens of people were also arrested during the protests.

In photos reflected in the press from the protests, it was seen that a police vehicle was set on fire, while some markets and shops were looted.

Police tell Walter Wallace that the fire was opened after he disobeyed the order to drop the knife in his hand.

“The footage captured when Wallace was shot requires some difficult questions to be answered,” said Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney.

Philadelphia Police Chief Danielle Outlaw investigated the whereabouts of Wallace. Outlaw said he felt black anger.

Investigations into the incident continue.

Wallace’s father, on the other hand, told the press that his son was being treated for psychological problems: “Why didn’t they use a stun gun?” reacted to the police with his words.

Several cities in the United States have been the scene of mass protests to protest police violence against blacks, especially since May.
