Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán say what Brussels demands from both countries could lead to the end and “disintegration” of the European Union (EU).
It is recalled that this Thursday the two prime ministers of Poland and Hungary confirmed the veto on European budgets – the so-called “bazooka” – provided that the payment of EU funds is subject to compliance with the rule of law.
“The current proposal is not acceptable for Hungary”, said the Hungarian premier, after a meeting in Budapest with his Polish counterpart, adding that “it would serve to create the primacy of the majority and not the law”.
“Political disputes over the rule of law and the urgent need to resolve economic issues cannot be linked,” said Orbán, quoted by RTP.
The Polish premier, for his part, added that the veto is due to the fact that the conditioning proposal is “politically motivated” and could “lead to the disintegration of the European Union”. “It is a dangerous and harmful solution,” Morawiecki warned.
“A mechanism which, due to its arbitrariness, due to the nature of decisions motivated only by politics, would inevitably lead to the discrediting of the EU”, underlined the Polish prime minister, quoted by the RTP.
Therefore, the leaders of the two countries say that Brussels demands could end the European Union and “blame” the blame for the remaining 25 member states.
In a joint statement, Orbán and Morawiecki strengthened their alliance and said that neither would approve “any proposal that the other side considers unacceptable”.
